Service overview & philosophy
The philosophy of care underpinning all our services is that
patients have the right to appropriate care, treatment and
effective programmes based on a deep understanding of their
individual needs and behavioural challenges.

PiC offers patients individualised packages of care that address
their needs, while valuing, and building on, their strengths and
abilities. Our treatment packages encourage a sense of hope and
recovery.
Flexible and responsive care is crucial to the success that we
achieve throughout our services. To this end, each patient
participates in a regular review programme, known as the Care
Programme Approach (CPA), which improves the quality and
effectiveness of client care and treatment. The patient, their
referring team and their family are encouraged to take part in CPA
meetings. Our thorough initial referral assessment, bolstered by
the on-going CPA reviews, ensures that each individual's programme
remains effective as their condition evolves. The process
actualises the potential of each individual, as well as helping
patients acquire new skills and work towards their personal goals,
including, where appropriate, a move back into the community.
The basic and clinical knowledge base that underpins the
management of patients with mental health conditions, learning
disability and brain injury advances continually. PiC actively
engage with this evolving knowledge. Our skilled multidisciplinary
teams integrate the latest evidence-based treatments into their
practice to offer each patient the most effective package of care.
Regular clinical audit helps drive continual improvements in care.
Our specialists also regularly present papers and give talks
nationally and internationally.
PiC specialise in providing services to patients who may be
described as 'treatment resistant' or who may present with very
challenging behaviours. Through the dedicated work of our staff and
the careful use of appropriate medication, we have helped patients
who have spent long periods in closed units relocate to supported
community placements and a better quality of life.
