Violence, aggression & challenging behaviours in psychiatry

Released 21/09/2009

Partnerships in Care’s second annual risk conference on 12 November 2009 aims to bring together clinicians, academics and commissioners with an interest in the management and treatment of high risk and challenging patients.

As well as reviewing the most recent research, presenters will look to the practical delivery of treatments that demonstrably reduce risk and dangerousness.

Despite all efforts to persuade them to the contrary, the media continue to portray those with mental illness as dangerous and unpredictable. A presentation on the portrayal of violence in film will give an opportunity for reflection and examine our continuing efforts to reduce stigma and misperceptions.

Aims of the conference:

  • To understand the most recent research on and treatment for patients with high levels of risk and dangerousness
  • To look at the portrayal of violence in film and its contributions to perceptions of mental illness
  • To examine the most recent research on ethnicity - mental illness and violence
  • To network with peers and colleagues at what will be a practical rather than policy driven event
