PiC opens its first facility in Scotland

Released 13/02/2008

Partnerships in Care (PiC), the UK's leading independent provider of specialist mental health care and related services, is pleased to announce the purchase of its first hospital in Scotland, The Ayr Clinic in Ayrshire.

The Ayr Clinic is a 24 bed low secure, purpose built psychiatric unit providing secure in-patient care and treatment for people suffering from mental illness, personality disorder or a mild learning disability.

Within the facility, there are two separate units. One unit offers low secure psychiatric rehabilitation for men; the other offers low secure rehabilitation services for women. PiC has already shown a commitment to this unit through the provision of an additional 10 bedrooms, which will be open in March 2008, to complement the existing service.

On completion of the purchase, Myles Paterson, Regional Executive Director for Partnerships in Care in Scotland said, “We look forward to working in partnership with The Scottish Forensic Network and the local health boards to extend our first class mental health services to new purchasers, enhancing the quality of existing services and building on the good relationships that have already been established.”

PiC will offer a committed multidisciplinary team providing high quality, 24 hour therapeutic care with dignity, security and privacy. A wide range of care and treatment is offered; the treatment programme comprises a comprehensive assessment period in which a clear treatment pathway and individual daily programme is developed. The initial patient focus is on achieving stability and treating symptoms. Once this is achieved they progress to rehabilitative therapies and development of skills in preparation for reintegration into the community.

Andreana Adamson, Chair of the Forensic Network in Scotland, welcomes the arrival of PiC to Scotland: “PiC has a well respected reputation in the field. Clinicians are experienced in referring patients to the services PiC offer in specialist forensic services, particularly in their units in the North of England. We believe that PiC and The Ayr Clinic will make a positive contribution to the developing Network of Forensic Services here in Scotland.”

Fred Sinclair-Brown, PiC Group Chief Executive said: “We are delighted to be opening our first hospital in Scotland. It is our intention that The Ayr Clinic will become a first class hospital delivering high-quality assessment, treatment and care. We hope to increase the scale of our presence in Scotland over the coming years.”
