PiC South East region announced as finalists in the Innovation
Awards category

Laing & Buisson Independent Specialist Care Awards
2012
We are very proud to announce that PiC South East has reached
the finals in the Innovation Award category for their ‘Red Amber
Green (RAG) risk management system’ devised by lead nurse Erika
Smith.
The RAG system is a dynamic risk assessment
and management framework that responds to fluctuations in risk. It
is a collaborative tool that enables working with patients and
encompasses the use of the ward environment. It also replaces the
use of zonal observations on the wards.
There are four elements to it: the ward
environment, patient’s possessions, patient’s current risk
behaviour and patient’s location within the ward.
This innovative nurse-led system is supported
by the multidisciplinary team and has led to not only savings
to the nursing budget but also reduced the incidents by almost
70%, (self harm 68.97% and violence and aggressions
62.5%) thereby improving the care of patients and the working
day of staff.
Winners will be announced at a Gala
Dinner on Thursday 15 March 2012.
