The Dene

Provides Mental Illness and Personality Disorder services
(women only)

The Dene provides medium secure level assessment and therapeutic programmes for women with mental health problems with challenging and complex needs, who are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983. An active rehabilitation service is provided.

The hospital is set in 11 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside. There are extensive educational, occupational and sporting facilities, the latter including: a sports hall, a tennis court and a gymnasium, along with various communal recreation areas. Creative activities are available in a purpose built art room and workshop, and patients have use of two practice kitchens. There is also a patient library which enables the patients to participate in a basic skills programme with the education team.

Patient groups

At The Dene we offer care to women with: mental illnesses, personality disorders and/or learning disabilities, who present complex and challenging behaviours and often have histories of trauma or abuse, offending or substance misuse.
