Biographies

Mike Bennett
Regional Executive Director, North West Region


Mike joined PiC in 1988 and has had various clinical and managerial roles during this time.

He returned to his native North West region in 1998 to commission and develop The Spinney, which was one of the organisations new facilities in the region at that time.

He has overseen significant financial investment in the region as the company has developed services to meet local need.

His inclusive style has forged partnerships with colleagues and services within both the public and independent sector, providing representation on workforce development groups and the regions secure catchment group.

In 2006 he took the role of regional lead for both Kemple View and The Spinney and had significant input to the strategic investment in the region to enhance the patients experience and provide identifiable care pathways. One of PiC's newest hospitals, Arbury Court, will also form part of Mike's remit.


Dr Mike Launer
Medical Director


Mike has been Medical Director for the North West region since November 2006. Prior to this he worked as NHS consultant in general adult psychiatry for 27 years. His special interest is resistant psychosis; he has run eating disorder and substance abuse services. Mike often works with carers nationally; he also advises the Healthcare Commission and the GMC in several aspects of their work. Peer reviewer for several journals and international lecturer. Also has written novels and often writes articles for the both the lay and medical press.

Ailie Wallace
Registered Manager


Prior to taking up the role of Registered Manager at Arbury Court, Ailie Wallace worked at The Spinney for five years in the role of Clinical Nurse Manager.
Ailie is a professionally qualified registered nurse with 17 years post registration experience. Since qualifying she has worked mainly in the field of challenging behaviours within secure and forensic settings.

She has experience working with people with personality disorder and was the link nurse /advisory clinician in the consultation process for the first DSPD pilot group at Whitemoor Prison.


Zoe Elms
Head of Referrals and Marketing, PiC North West


Zoe currently manages medical records, referrals and complaints for 74 beds at Kemple View. Zoe is also involved in induction and introduction for new starters, organisation of staff events and chair of a number of local and corporate meetings.

Zoe achieved promotion to Head of Referrals and Medical Records for PiC North West in November 2006, managing Medical Records and Referrals for three hospitals consisting of 240 beds. Zoe previously worked in the public sector.


Emma Shillabeer
Chartered Psychologist


Emma has 10 years experience of working as a Forensic Psychologist.
From June 2002 to October 2006, she worked at The Spinney, specialising in the assessment, management and treatment of men with complex, severe and enduring mental health problems. Prior to this, she worked for H M Prison Service for almost seven years. She worked in high and medium secure settings, including with female adult and young offenders with complex risk and mental health issues
