Nick Shaughnessy
Registered Manager - Arbury Court
I’d always wanted the opportunity to work in a secure setting in
a women’s’ health environment. I joined Partnerships in Care
because they gave me an opportunity to do just that, as well as a
chance to use all the skills and knowledge I’d gained in the
private sector. At the end of the day, I gain real pleasure from
making a difference. Now I can work with people who have difficult
histories and help them develop the skills to pursue more
independent lives.
My development opportunities have been fantastic here, too. The
fact that I joined as a Charge Nurse and became a Lead Nurse in
just three years tells you everything. People really get behind the
work you do. Recently, my Manager nominated me for the Nurse of the
Year Award because of the work I’d carried out in women’s services.
In particular, I’d been working with staff to improve their
knowledge and the way they support those who self-harm. Rather than
focusing on zero tolerance, my approach was to offer alternative
coping strategies; developing individual care plans so that each
patient can find a strategy that works for them.
That’s why I love working here – It’s different because of the
time and effort invested in everyone’s development.
