Mike Bennett
Regional Executive Director
North West Region
I qualified as a registered nurse in learning disabilities at
one of the five high secure hospitals in the UK.
One of our patients was being assessed to move to Kneesworth
House Hospital, a 70-bedded unit Hertfordshire.
At the time I was looking for a fresh challenge, the doctor who
did the assessment explained that the organisation he was working
for had big expansion plans.
That was way back in 1988 when I joined Partnerships in Care.
And since then I’ve never looked back.
Over the first ten years in PiC, I held various managerial and
clinical positions, however, in 1998, I was given the opportunity
to commission and develop the Spinney: a new service for PiC. I was
responsible for developing services to meet local needs. We quickly
had to forge partnerships with colleagues and services in both the
public and independent sector.
In 2006, I took the role of Lead for both Kemple View and the
Spinney, the aim was to enhance the patient’s experience. One of
PiC’s newest facilities, Arbury Court, also forms part of the
region, providing over 250 medium and low secure beds in the
Northwest.
If I could describe PIC in one word, it would be
opportunity.
As a Deputy Charge nurse I set out to develop- and I have done-
as both an individual and professional.
Opportunities are there and depending on your own ambition
Partnerships in Care will help make your aspirations a reality.
