Psychiatry
Our phenomenal success has much to do with our unique approach
to psychiatric care. Unlike many other services, we don’t have a
‘pick-up-put-down’ approach to people, so our patients aren’t
constantly referred from one person to another. Here, you see a
person through a care pathway from start to finish. You’re able to
watch your patient’s progress and then take pride when your hard
work returns them to the real world, with a real life.

You’ll also have all the freedom and flexibility you need to
develop your own ideas; strategies that will form new and effective
care pathways. So whether you’re based in Brighton, in York or
anywhere in between, you’re with patients for as long as they’re
with us. It’s an approach that benefits careers as well as the
people you care for.
Our Psychiatrists’ passion for helping patients is usually matched
by their depth of knowledge. Typically, they’ve spent many years
working with patients detained under the Mental Health Act, and
they understand how to apply current practice in the area of
patient intervention. They may have experience of specific patient
groups (male, female, personality disorders, and substance or drug
abuse) but they always share a desire to work with
multi-disciplinary teams to develop effective interventions and
care pathways. The kind of programmes that are fundamental to our
success.
More specifically, our psychiatrists have a CST in forensic or
adult psychiatry, Section 12 approval and experience within
forensic, adult, rehabilitation or LD psychiatry. In addition, they
usually take on RMO responsibility for a group of detained
patients. Besides clinical and legal responsibilities for their
care, they engage with Clinical Governance programmes and are
active in multidisciplinary CPD programmes.
